What is Plan B?
Plan B is an emergency contraceptive used as a backup for preventing pregnancy after unprotected sex or failure of another birth control type. Plan B contains the hormone levonorgestrel, the same ingredient found in many birth control pills.
It is important to know that Plan B is not RU-486 (the abortion pill). Because it is used to prevent pregnancy, it will not work if you are already pregnant, and it will not affect an existing pregnancy. Plan B emergency contraceptive is not for routine use.
