When is your most fertile period?

Women are born with approximately 400,000 eggs in their ovaries. Every month several eggs mature and one is released from an ovary. All along, the uterus has been thickening to act as a nest for the egg to implant. If the egg is released and not fertilized (by sperm) within 12-48 hours, it dissolves. The uterus then sheds it's thick lining 2 weeks later; this is your period.
Ovulation occurs when the matured egg is released from the ovary. It happens around 14 or 15 days from the first day of your last period. Once the egg is released it travels into the Fallopian tube and is able to be fertilized by a sperm. This is your most fertile time to become pregnant. If you have unprotected sex, pregnancy can occur. A pregnancy can happen anytime from 5 days before ovulation to 1 day afterwards.
Conception happens when a single sperm penetrates the egg. The egg and the sperm then merge into a single nucleus known as a "zygote". It can take several days for a pregnancy to occur as the fertilized egg has to implant in the lining of the uterus. It is only after the zygote has implanted that the woman is considered pregnant.

It is important to remember that MOST women will ovulate 14 or 15 days from the first day of the last period but not ALL women. Women can get pregnant whenever they ovulate, and for some women that is much earlier or later in their cycle. Some women even ovulate during their period. Unless you are tracking when your body is ovulating assume that you can get pregnant at any point during your cycle and ALWAYS use protection.
How can you tell when you are ovulating?
It was certainly interesting for me to read this blog. Thanx for it. I like such topics and everything connected to this matter. I would like to read a bit more soon.

There are a several ways you can tell, but here are a few common ones.
If you keep a menstrual calendar, ovulation occurs halfway through your menstrual cycle, most of the time. If you have irregular periods, you will have to take notice to other signals from your body such as a twinge of pain or cramps in your lower abdomen. Another way to tell when ovulation may be occurring is to become familiar with your cervix. Monitor closely the consistency of cervical mucus because if the mucus is slippery, clear, and thin, it means you are close to your ovulation period.
You can also use a device called a Basal Body Temperature (BBT) where you can use it to chart your body temperature, helping you predict when ovulation occurs. Or, another device you can use is an ovulation predictor kit (OPKs). These devices will be able to let you know 12 to 24 hours before you ovulate. All you need to do is to pee on a stick.
