Women of all ages use birth control. They know what it is, but many do not know about the risks and its side effects. Your physician should inform you of all you need to know about birth control. If you are currently on the pill and are experiencing the side effects for over 3 months, inform your doctor. Your doctor should prescribe you to a different birth control. Learning about birth control can help you find out which brand is right for you.
Lauren Bosworth also known as “Lo” from The Hills and Laguna Beach is the spokesmodel for Yaz birth control. Yaz is the new birth control that has fewer side effects than its competitors. These side effects include acne and fluid retention. Like many girls, Lauren has tried several different oral contraceptives. Lauren chose Yaz because of the fewer monthly periods. She also wanted to learn what her options are for birth control and to take control of its effects in her body. Different from other oral contraceptives that are usually a 21/7 cycle, Yaz is a 24/4 cycle (a low-dose combination of estrogen and progestrin).
It is very important that your doctor or nurse explains everything you need to know about the birth control they are prescribing to you before you starting taking it. The common side effects for birth control pills can be:
- Weight gain
- Nausea and vomiting (felt for the first few cycles)
- Dizziness
- Increase or decrease in acne
- Headaches
- High blood pressure
- Loss of libido
- Depression
- Vaginal infections
The less common but serious health risks are:
- Blood clots in legs, lungs, heart or brain
- Stroke
- Heart attacks
- Possibly cervical cancer
If any of the above side effects persists or worsens, make sure you contact your doctor immediately.

Are the lawsuits for Yaz birth control of a concern in Canada?
Comment by Anonymous — October 17, 2009 @ 12:40 pm
Dear Anonymous,Initially, the Yaz birth control lawsuits were about false advertising that Yaz treats or cures the following not FDA approved symptoms: Irritability, moodiness, bloating, fatigue, bloating, headaches, muscle aches, increased appetite, keeping a women's mild acne at bay and relieving symptoms of PMS (premenstrual syndrome). Yaz birth control was only FDA approved for the following: preventing pregnancy, treating moderate acne vulgaris in women who are using Yaz to prevent pregnancy, and treating symptoms of PMDD (premenstrual dysphoric disorder) in women who are using Yaz to prevent pregnancy. This was the federal/state lawsuit in which Bayer (the maker of Yaz birth control) has now agreed to advertise only for what is approved by the FDA for Yaz.The individual lawsuits where individuals who have suffered from injuries caused by Yaz such as blood clots, pulmonary embolism, stroke, and heart attack are seeking compensation from Bayer for their losses because of deceptive advertising of Yaz and minimal mention of the potential Yaz side effects. Doctors who are prescribing you not only Yaz birth control, but all other birth control pills, should be warning you that there are side effects including blood clots, stroke, heart attack, and pulmonary embolism. I started taking Yaz, then my blood pressure when up. My doctor then put me on blood pressure medication. I got fed up with all the pills, so I stopped taking Yaz, then had to stop taking the blood pressure meds because my pressure had dropped. I've been off it for a month, my blood pressure is normal, but the cystic acne has returned…. guess I'm doomed to live a long life with poor skin : )Has anyone else noticed an elevation in blood pressure
